You’ll get two different answers if you ask Madison and Duke how they met.

While Duke likes to joke incessantly that they met on a dating application, the real credit should be given to Duke’s cousin, Julianne. Madison and Julianne had been friends for about a decade when Madison made the move to Morehead City and Julianne suggested she meet Duke to help her acclimate to her new home. Duke had been living in Beaufort for a few years already and had begun a fulfilling career centered around his favorite passion – boats.

Madison had grown up spending summers in Atlantic Beach with her family in their second home and was thrilled to make Carteret County her permanent residence. She jumped at the opportunity to meet new people and Duke suggested an afternoon boat ride through his favorite stomping grounds. What both assumed was going to be a short cruise, turned into an entire afternoon and a later dinner date.

It wasn’t long before they realized just how much they had in common.

Duke had also spent childhood summers in Atlantic Beach, about two blocks from Madison, both attended North Carolina State University [although she cheers on her other alma mater, much to his chagrin, GO HEELS!], they had spent several hunting seasons less than two miles from each other in Hyde county, and had numerous familial connections. They also share a deep, unwavering love and respect for North Carolina, tradition, and their roots. The cherry on top: you’ll never find people who love dogs more than these two.

They, along with Stella (their black English Lab), have since enjoyed many boat days, family hunting trips, sporting events, and dinner dates [as Madison can’t cook, like at all].

…………………

We feel extremely lucky to have found each other and are so thrilled to celebrate with those we love and who have made us the people we are today.
